La Bourbansais, one of the most beautiful zoos of Brittany
Less than 50 km from the Château de Galinée campsite, the Bourbansais zoo is a place of undisputed tourist interest in Ille-et-Vilaine . Around a castle from the 16th and 17th century evolve more than 60 species of animals in semi-freedom. In all, there are more than 400 animals that you can observe from fifty points of view: lions, tigers, cheetahs, llamas, giraffes, zebras, dromedaries, lynx, wolves, anteaters, monkeys and lemurs, kangaroos, lazy, reindeer, emus, otters, parrots, flamingos, pelicans, or falcons and vultures.
Two great shows enliven the place, including one of a kind: free-flying birds and the show “dogs and men”. On the program, shepherd dogs at work, pack dogs alongside horses, and impressive greyhound racing. The bird show invites you to discover raptor hunting techniques, to witness the flight of sport pigeons and the controlled landings of storks and cranes.
Educational activities also punctuate the days at the zoo: by attending the afternoon tea of the Capuchins, giraffes and pelicans, you will have the opportunity to meet the healers and learn a lot about these species. The site also includes children’s play areas, inflatable structures and a plant labyrinth.
From April to September and during short school holidays, La Palmeraie offers a restaurant menu and a snack menu. The interiors of the castle and its gardens can also be visited: a guide takes you to the discovery of 18th furnished lounges and reveals the many anecdotes of the place. The botanical garden can be visited or guided.
